B級ホラーやエクスプロイテーション映画の真の魅力は、長居をしたり、自分ではない何かになろうとしない限り、オリジナリティが評価されないことはない、ということです。そんなわけで、このオーストラリアのホラー・コメディにスポットライトを当てます。
The true beauty of B-horror and exploitation films is that, as long as you don't overstay your welcome and try to be something you're not, your originality won't go unappreciated. Such is the reason why we're giving this Australian horror-comedy a spotlight.
ビキニ姿の女性ヴァンパイアが、あらゆる女性を襲い、ビキニ姿のヴァンパイアの姉妹に変えてしまうというコンセプトだけで十分だ。それだけで十分だし、このシリーズに必要なことはそれだけだ。
The concept alone is enough: female vampires in bikinis attacking every other woman in sight and turning them into their bikini-wearing vampire sisters. That's all you need to know, and that's all this series needed to do.
第4弾のエンディングに文句を言うことも、主人公が女性でないことを嘆くことも、制作費の低さを嘆くことも、これがソフトコア・ポルノ映画でないことに失望することもできるだろう。しかし、私たちはそうしない。その代わりに、なぜ誰もこのアイデアを思いつかなかったのかと考えます。
We could complain about the ending to the fourth instalment, we could lament the fact that the protagonist isn't a woman, we could bemoan the low production values, and we could be dissapointed that this isn'a softcore porn movie. We won't. Instead, we wonder why no one else has come up with this idea.
このシリーズをゴミ扱いして、「もっといいものを見ただろう」と言うのは簡単です。しかし、私たちはそうしません。実際、ヴァンパイアの映画やコミックは、ポルノであろうとなかろうと、何年もかけていくつも見てきたが、そのポテンシャルを発揮できたのは、ごく一部の作品に限られている。キラー・ビキニ・ヴァンパイア・ガールズ』は、完全に的外れだったわけではない。低予算のウェブ映画として、そのコンセプトでできる限りのことをやっているのであって、単に安っぽい目の保養に使うだけではないのだ。
もし、これ以上のものができる人がいれば、ぜひ挑戦してほしい。
It's easy to trash this series and quip that you've either seen something better. We won't. The fact is that we've seen several vampire films and comics, over the years, pornographic or otherwise, but only a select few have lived up to their potential. Killer Bikini Vampire Girls didn't miss the mark entirely. It does as much as a low-budget web film can do with its concept, rather than simply use it for cheap eye-candy only.
If anyone can do better than this, we invite you to try.
